Newcastle Questions Revisited
Any Smart Folk Out There?

We previously received an email from a lady looking for some information on Newcastle. Here are her questions – Maybe today someone will have at least one answer for her?.. Maybe someone who works in the area?

Q1:There are what appear to be Years etched into the numerous boulders along
this route – what do these signify?

Q2:
The Station House at Newcastle has a year on the side – 1851 I think but
can’t remember exactly, however the name plate on the house has ‘Station
House 1375′ on it – We assumed that this was incorrect as the train line
does not go back that far but I was hoping you could clarify?

Q3:Finally, as we walked back along by what ‘I’ think is the bird sanctuary, we
noticed that there was the appearance of an airstrip along here and a
large corrugated building – is there one here or is it part of the bird
sanctuary?
Editors Note: Actually a friend of mine recently told me that there is indeed a new airstrip here so perhaps it was the preliminary plans she had seen….

There is a lovely new beauty salon in Rathdrum, down the cobbled lane that also leads to Bates Restaurant – by the Cartoon inn on the main street. The Salon is called Pure Essence Beauty Salon and only opened it’s doors earlier this week.

I popped by to have a look and must say it looked very clean, relaxing and welcoming. The girls were very friendly and offer a whole range of services from Stand up Sunbed at only one euro a minute!!, plus the usual: facials (decleor), nail care, eye care, Bridal and special occasion Make up , Body wraps and treatments and so on.

However, I did notice that they do not have massages mentioned.. perhaps these are in the pipeline? I do hope so as massages are my favourite treat!
To contact them Tel: 086 3815646 –
Tell them we sent you and let us know how you get on.

The Animal Sanctuary in Sharpeshill ( near Rathdrum) are is the location of the Wicklow S.P.C.A.’s annual open day. This Sunday – tomorrow 22 June at 1.30pm.

I will be there to participate in the fun dog show – maybe I’ll win cutest cheeky dog eh? There will also be nice stuff to buy of course including cakes, and plants and you can meet all the other animal that live there. So come along and enjoy a family friendly day for this very good cause. My mate Snipe came from here – bless him!

Some members of Kilmantin Gallery (and other artists) can be found displaying their wares from wednesday next the 18th until Saturday the 21st on the pier as the Round Ireland Yacht Race is coming to Wicklow.

Certainly the handmade wire jewellery from Helen Pullen is very attractive. Why not check them out and enjoy a cold beer whilst watching all the lovelies hanging about the yachts daaarlling!
