Star-B-Q – NASA Scientist and Huge Telescope Prize At last, after another year of waiting and planning, Astronomy Irelands (AI) annual fundraising Star-B-Q takes place again in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow on Saturday August 30.

Star-B-Q is Ireland’s biggest annual Star Party with people coming from all around Ireland, so don’t be left out.

“How the Sun Affects Our Lives” is this year’s Keynote speech by Dr James McAteer who worked for NASA on the SoHO space telescope.

The talk will be informal and will cover Solar Flares, Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) with lots of movies and pictures from SoHO, STEREO, and Hinode.

This is your opportunity to see and see through some of the largest telescopes in the country AND for the first time ever, all attendees are entered into a free draw for a Celestron Nexstar 8SE worth nearly 1,500euro.

Other prizes on the night are a Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium and a year’s membership to Astronomy Ireland (total prizes worth over 2,000euro!).

You can book online at www.astronomy.ie/sbq or call (01) 847 0777 to save 20% of the gate price on the night. Proceeds help us to promote astronomy throughout the country.

Please bring all your friends and family and tell everyone you know. One of you will go home with a 1,500 Euro telescope!

Lots of you are wondering how Skippys’ recovery is getting on.
Well he is now able to use hs leg albbeit a little wobbly sometimes but when he is taken out for his daily toilet breaks he seems to forget about his leg and wants to run off into the blue yonder. HOWEVER, we are following the vets very strict instructions and keeping him on a very short rein.

Indeed this evening we are considering taking the cone off his little head as long as he is in no danger of nibbling at his leg!! We’ll see.

He is of course as cheeky as ever and has emptied the bin on more than one occasion since his house arrest! He had to leave the cage as he
1: kept escaping and
2: was rubbing himself along the cage and thus keeping his leg wound very raw!
Whats a girl to do!!!!
Am hoping he will be well by the SUNNY weekend of 30th August for our house warming party.

Till then,
adieu

So here’s the plan,

Myself and Christopher Stacey from Footfalls holidays are teaming up to walk the wicklow way in September. We’ll be focusing on the following segments of the well known wicklow way walk:

  • Starting from Clonegal to Shillelagh ( 14.3 miles)
  • Shillelagh to Tinahely (12.3 miles)
  • Tinahely To Moyne (8.7 miles)
  • Moyne to Glenmalure (13 miles)
  • Glenmalure to Glendalough

So wish us luck as we get prepared – well, Christopher is always prepared but this is a first for yours truly!! Thats why I will be writing all about my experience on the Wicklow Way walk with photos to accompany it so that you can see for yourself what a beautiful county Wicklow is and how much the Wicklow Way has to Offer!

a lot of our viewers have contacted us looking for information on local hill walking groups in Wicklow and sometimes Wexford. strangely enough it is surprisingly difficult to find groups that meet up regularly as most sites seem to be offering paid guided tours and holidays.. so we were thrilled to find that this link is an absolutely simple way of finding a walking group in your area. simply click on the link to see a map of Ireland, click on your area and a contact will come up.

Enjoy them there hills!!! And watch out for our big walk in september where we’ll be walking the popular wicklow way walking trail and putting it all up on our blog!

Skippy was rushed to UCD last week with a skin reaction to his bandage and so stayed in there for a week and came back home in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend. I was soo pleased to see him but oh gosh does he have much more requirments. He now has no bandage and needs to be kept in his cage 24/7.. very sad. and worse still he has to wear a big cone on his head to avoid licking his leg.. He is being a very brave little soldier but momma is gonna need a holiday after this…
