well there I was last night- a damsel in distress

as I had locked myself out of my car – and had not yet gotten round to getting a spare key cut of course!

Having realised that it was after 6.30pm on a frosty night I was aware that the local garage was closed and I needed to get home soon, so i decided to break the window when…out of the blue a man appeared shouting “stop stop what are you doing?!!”

To cut a long story short he thought i was sticking more stickers on my car (lol) and then when he realised that I was about to break my window he came to my rescue and opened it by magic ( and a fair bit of strength) before disappearing into the blackness from where he came.. all I can say is thank you hugh ( for thats all I know about you) for your help!

So to all you ladies out there I have two messages,

1: Heroes still exist

2: Get a spare key for your car now!

Happy Christmas from Roz and Skippy the dog

Go local in your community

Go Local is a countrywide campaign to encourage us folks to get more involved with our local communities. As a big believer in community The wicklow way dot ie would like to shout out our support for this initiative and we think it is a great idea.

Lets face it, life is so busy nowadays that we sometimes forget about all we can share and gain from our fellow neighbours, especially if we are new to an area. Your skills may be required and you can be sure of picking up some nice tips like where is good to shop, a lovely river walk, help with your vegetable patch or grants available in your area.

Frankly the sky is the limit and it is very true that we are nothing without our friends and community. Plus it’s a great way to get to know others and you can lend a helping hand to older folks in the community who can get lonely or need help in the cold winter months.

The wicklow way’s mantra is in fact based on building community (living life the wicklow way) and our socialites club and forums are a great way to share ideas and browse online all from the comfort of your own home – broadband permitting of course- tsk tsk government, get it together!!!

Let us know what your community experience is like and how others can get involved. For details on local groups and more on the initiative you can visit the Go Local website here >>>

Regular visitors to www.thewicklow way.ie will notice that our blog has now changed-

Due to the increasing number of news items that we are receiving we decided to make it a bit more ordered- thus we have categories as well as latest news posts in which to locate all the latest local news you can use.

Part of this involved making an RSS feed available – see the Rss picture above right. Basically if you click on this and then click the subscribe button , a little folder will appear on your computer browser called Wicklow Ireland.

If you click on that folder you will see all the various news item titles there. Put simply, what this does is, everytime we post something new to our blog, your little folder is automatically updated, so you can very quickly check our news without even having to type in our websites url! You can also add our feed to various social networks such as twitter and wordpress plus many more.

So get fed and start living life the wicklow way!

Sell your goods on The Wicklow Way

Hey everyone, I have been chatting to some artistic folks in wicklow and I am considering integrating an online shop into the site- one where people can buy locally made products such as jewllery, paintings, wooden crafts etc etc. we are open to suggestions!

send us an email if your interested as if enough people would like to join up we will be looking at launching it early next year,. basically I would do the administration and packing for a small commission- all you need to do is supply the goods!

SO lets get out of this recession and work together.

Hilltop treks are organising some fun walks this December so put these in your diary now!! We plan to be on the full moon walk ourselves so see you there!

Come along on our Full Moon Walk on December 12th.

This particular walk will start from the Glendalough Hotel at 7 p.m. on that Friday night.

All are welcome.

The walk is not too difficult but will give you excellent views over the Glendalough Valley. It will be along a trail for the majority of the walk. It will last between 3 and 4 hours.

You will be expected to bring your normal day pack hiking trip along with a head torch.

Raingear as always is essential and a good pair of walking boots. Bring along an extra fleece for extra warmth.

A hot drink should be brought along as well as we will be stopping along the way.

Booking is essential for these walks so get in early.

For more details and booking click here

Plus closer to Christmas:

Christmas Walk Sun 21st December

It’s that time of year again Santa’s on the way, the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping and all the eating and drinking too much is starting to take its toll.

So why not get away from the Christmas madness for a few hours and unwind with a walk in Wicklow.

With it being Christmas time we will have a festive theme on this walk, mulled wine and mince pies to help you on your way.

Hopefully the Mulled wine will be warm by the time we get to drink it.

This will be a 3-4 hr moderate walk. For more details and booking click here

The price for this walk will be just €25 and it’s important to book early as places will be limited.

Seriously folks, I love skippy to bits but following up on his Easter raid of the Austrian ham he has outdone himself today!

I came home form a busy day of wicklow work to be greeted by an overturned dining table with only 3 legs and one of them wobbly at that, smashed crockery and not a lick of pasta sauce from said crockery!!

How do I know it was him? I asked him, and he immediately looked guilty and rolled onto his back. Trust me, It was him. But I am helpless when faced with his cuteness and besides, he must have got one hell of a shock LOL!!! That’ll teach him…I hope, tables broken again.
