Rathnew Co Wicklow

Visiting Rathnew, Co Wicklow:

Rathnew is a well known village that was once part of the Dublin – Wexford route (Teddys ice-creams anyone?.) Now that the M11 ( N11 / M50) has bypassed it, it has returned to its’ village status.

GAA is well supported here and you won’t miss knowing when a match is on as the streets are bedecked in flags and banners.

The village has quite a large population with many new developments currently under construction in the area.

The local newsagents makes the best ham salad rolls ever!! and the service station is often packed out with commuters filling their tanks for the week ahead. It is useful to note that this Petrol Service Station is often open (window hatch) late into the night.

Tinakilly Country House Hotel is a familiar landmark with luxurious accommodation on offer set in it’s 7 acres of gardens. It is a popular romantic getaway with four poster beds and tearooms to indulge in. See their website www.tinakilly.ie for more information.

Hunters Hotel in Rathnew is another popular getaway and symbolises romance with its mature gardens and old style (eighteenth century) building. Enjoy a brandy by the fire or stop by for tea in the gardens. See their website www.hunters.ie for details.

From rathnew you can easily reach Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford, all the amenities on offer in Wicklow Town, and get back on the motorway to Arklow and Wexford heading south, or alternatively you can be in Dublin within the hour heading north.
