WICKLOW SAILFEST 18th JUNE TO 20th JUNE 2010

Our Wicklow Way Writer and Artist Helen Pullen writes some news on the upcoming Sailfest in Wicklow Town:

I am getting geared up again to go out on the railings around the Halpin Memorial in Wicklow Town to join in the festivities for the Sailfest which is being run over the weekend 18th to 20th June.  I am hoping first of all that the weather is good, that lots of other artists turn out and for good sales – in that order!

I am hoping that my journey down the main street on my way to the railings will be as interesting as it was when I took part in the Arts Festival a few weekends ago.

I had to stop at the pedestrian crossing to let a very large lady cross, yea I know that is not very PC but she was large, she was all of 8 feet!  The fact that she was on stilts might have had something to do with it.  As we drove further down into the town we met a man on a wobbly bike, nothing strange there I hear you mutter!

The events for the Sailfest look exciting and I am especially looking forward to watching the yachts set sail from the harbour at 12 noon on Sunday.  I will be there hopping up and down with my camera!

~Helen

Check out the Sailfest events here

The Drifters play int eh Abbey car park next Saturday ( that’s especially for you David lol)

We would also like to wish every success to Tivoli and the Pride of Wicklow crew members (13) all aged between 19 & 21 all from Wicklow who have chartered a yacht  to sail around Ireland in the Round Ireland Race on 20th June. Well done guys and girls!!

Great Places to Eat in Wicklow Town

Last night I met up with some friends in Wicklow  Towns new Cafe / Restaurant:
World Wide Kitchen ( WWK) .

A relaxing friendly place that seats 20 people WWK Wicklow offers a gorgeous tasty menu where you can have a something small or large and a nice bottle of wine too! For example myself and my friend shared a Mixed Board of Cheese, Salami and Ham (€9.50), and some freshly baked Olive Bread ( €3.75) washed down with a nice chilled bottle of the House White wine , total bill was under 35 euro for the two of us – not bad eh?

The food was gorgeous with really nice meats and cheeses and a lovely bit of salad leaves and dressing in the middle to dip the bread into.

I am told that the local wicklow teenagers are also mad about this place with many of them stopping by for take aways of wraps, fish and chips, Pasta dishes, Pork ribs and more!

They also serve Delicious Irish Made Mauds Ice Cream. In fact the ethos behind World Wide Kitchen is a very admirable one – They keep it Local!

They source their meats from Cullens Butchers ( Wicklow), Wine from The Wicklow Wine Company, Vegetables from Woodroofes (Wicklow) and Italian produce from Italicatessan in Newtown (Wicklow). Well done guys!

They are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner ( and soon breakfast) plus they deliver to the following places ( at an extra charge):

  • wwkWicklow Town
  • Rathnew
  • Blainroe
  • Ashford
  • Glenealy
  • Brittas Bay
  • Barndarrig
  • Newtown

Located at The Mall on Main Street, you can contact World Wide Kitchen ( WWK) on 0404 61710.

Tell them we sent you!
