Full Moon Trek 2010

Get your boots on for Barnardos this Halloween!

This Autumn bank holiday why not dust off the cob webs with a fantastic challenge? A Halloween Full Moon Trek….

The Barnardos Full Moon Trek will take place on Saturday 23rd October on Lugnaquillia, Co. Wicklow.

This trek is an excellent opportunity to see the beautiful landscape by the light of the moon, while raising much needed funds for Barnardos. Our first Full Moon Trek in July was booked out in days so contact us today to reserve your space!
This will be a wonderful trek in the heart of the Wicklow mountains starting at 3pm with plenty of light to guide us to the summit. Upon reaching the summit, you can relax and enjoy the sunset from the summit before we make our descent back down the mountain under the light of the Full Moon. You will be invited to stay to attend our Halloween feast and enjoy some craic agus ceol in Fenton’s Pub!
We would ask you to raise €175 to take part in this remarkable trek. All funds raised will go directly to helping vulnerable children in Ireland. Our work relies on the generosity of our supporters and on the unshakable belief that Ireland really can be the best place in the world to be a child.
By attending this Full Moon Trek, you are doing your bit to support Barnardos and help us raise vital funds to keep our services open.

Deposit of €25 is required to secure your space! To secure your spot today please download our registration form here and return to Liz.

We hope this explains the process in more detail. The Wicklow Way will be supporting this event by attending a car boot sale where all goods sold will go towards this fundraiser.

Halloween Walkers must raise 175 each for Barnados

barnados-hilltoptreks-2010Regarding the upcoming barnodos fundraising walk with Hilltop treks and Mountain ventures, it should be noted that each person intending to go must raise €175 each for barnados..

With only 3 weeks to do it’s time to get your thinking hats on- but don’t despair. Give it a shot. You may be suprised with yourself and it really is a great cause.

Personally we are thinking of a car boot sale to get the ball going here ayway. Anyone with any ideas can leave a comment and help inspire others.

Aughrim Juveniles

Aughrim Juvenile U-8 and U-10′s capped their season off by hosting the final hurling blitz of the year in Aughrim on Saturday last. On a sunny morning, teams from Avondale, Arklow Rocks and Carnew along with the host club had a very enjoyable morning of relaxed entertainment. All games were played in good spirit with some delightful hurling being played at this very tender age.

All clubs have made great strides this year with their underage talent and all augers well for the future. Aughrim GAA Club would again like to thank all the parents for putting on a fine spread of food and for helping out on the day.

We would like to thank Liam Keenan who always turns out to referee and the coaches – Rory Connolly, Derek Kavanagh, John Keenan, John Byrne, Pat Murray, Alan Dillon, Sean O’ Shea, Pete Carroll, John Gunning, Thomas Shannon , John O’ Byrne and Paul Whelan who give so freely of their time week in week out to coach in excess of 90 children each week.

We would also like to thank all the children for the effort and dedication they put in during the year, they have been a pleasure to work with and we look forward to having them all back again next year.

Outside training for U-6, U-8 and U-10′s has now finished for the winter however we will be starting indoor hurling in the near future. The U Can Awards will be taking place on 2nd Oct (Hurling) and 9th Oct (Football) in the county Grounds, Aughrim will have 6 players representing the club on both days, and we would like to wish them all the best as they compete against clubs from all over the county.

Hard Luck to the Aughrim/ Annacurra U-13′s who lost to Tinahely in the Ray Daniels Cup last week, having had 70% of the possession in the first half they still found themselves in arrears having missed a few easy frees and hit the post and crossbar on a number of occasions. Their luck didn’t change either in the second half when they lost Elliot Robinson through injury and missed a penalty. Tinahely were able to tag on a few goals and ran out realtively easy winners in the end. Roan Lynch and Elliott Robinson were very impressive for the losers who also had strong performances from Brian Shannon, Daniel O’ Hare and Dan Owens.

Aughrim/Annaccura were the only team to play all their matches in this competition and deserved better for their efforts. Thanks to the coaches of Paul Whelan, John O’ Byrne and Richie Doyle for guiding the team to the final.

Bee-Keeping

Greenan Farm Museums & Maze are hosting an Introduction to BEE-KEEPING workshop with experienced bee-keeper Stewart McGrane on Sunday October 3rd from 10am to 4pm.  Bookings essential 086-8845624 or 0404-46000.

The numbers 1, 9, 17 and 21 were drawn in last week’s sports club lotto.  Match three winners were Tommy O’Sullivan, Mervyn Stephenson, Declan Carter, Tracey Gannon, Kay Byrne and Kim & Des. The jackpot was not won. Next week’s jackpot is €7500.
