More details below:

It has been announced by Denis Fielding, President of the Wicklow Chamber, that CFL Events, the event organisers of the very successful Christmas at Clermont last year, has moved this event to Wicklow Town and re-named it Christmas at The Coach House.  The event is supported by Wicklow County Enterprise Board, Wicklow Town & District Chamber and Wicklow Town Council.

Sheelagh Daly CEO of the Wicklow County Enterprise Board welcomed the announcement “We are committed to supporting local producers of artisan goods and Christmas at Clermont last year was such a success we are delighted to support Christmas at The Coach House this year. We feel it will help local producers achieve sales and profits in these turbulent times while bringing visitors and shoppers alike to Wicklow Town.”

Admission to the event is FREE on all the dates!

Where is The Coach House you may wonder?  Just off Fitzwilliam Square is Fitzwilliam Court (through an archway) where there are two Coach House buildings dating back to c1910 when there was a hotel on the Main Street called The Green Tree Family & Commercial Hotel owned by a Mr Thomas Kavanagh.  These coach houses at the back of the hotel were used for coaches and horses belonging to visitors staying at the hotel on their way to Wexford from Dublin! The coach houses were tastefully renovated and have been used as shops over the years.  The event organisers have secured the rental of these premises for the duration of the event.

The two Coach Houses along with a very safe Courtyard and a fabulous archway are perfect for a magical event like this.  Sinead Quinn (CFL Events) says “To ensure visitors to Wicklow Town and Christmas at The Coach House get into the Christmas Spirit the buildings will be trimmed with lights, there will be Hog Roasting outside in the Courtyard along with Seasonal Plants & Fresh Holly Wreaths and then indoors in the two festively decorated Coach Houses there will be local Artisan Crafts & Gifts and local Artisan Producers Food Hall….Come and get those “hard to find unusual gifts” for friends and loved ones this Christmas. …and yes Santa will be on hand at the top of the town in Wicklow Gaol to complete the 2010 Wicklow Town Christmas Experience! No town is complete without the bearded fellow!”

Wicklow Town Christmas shopping enthusiasts will have the option of exploring the bustling fair, roaming the courtyard or sampling delicious treats in the Food Hall before or after exploring the many delights of the vibrant Main Street shops. With so many Cafés to choose from in the town it looks like no Christmas Shopping Experience would be complete without a hot chocolate and treat afterwards!

Any local artisan producers of art, craft, gifts or food interested in participating in this inaugural Christmas at The Coach House in Wicklow Town can contact Sinead at 0872707496.  This fair It is about showcasing all that is good about locally produced food and crafts in Wicklow.

Wicklow Way and Greystones Guide Team Up

greystones-offerHere at The Wicklow Way Business Direcory we are always trying to come up with new ways to help businesses in Co Wicklow improve their visibility online and today is no exception!

We have teamed up with the wonderful Local Greystones Business Directory ‘Greystones Guide dotcom‘ with the following offer:

Any Wicklow Business who advertises on the Greystones Guide before January 01st 2011 can get a €25 Euro discount off an annual advert with our County Wicklow Business Directory www.thewicklowway.com.

The Greystones guide is a very informative and well made website, the administration of which takes a lot of time and to this end they will be upping their rates in January 2010 from the current 25 euro per annum to a reasonable 80 euro per annum, so this is an opportunity to get a whole years’ advertising on two of Wicklows’ top Business sites for only 150 in total

That’s a saving of  80 Euro compared to taking out the same 2 adverts after December 31st of this year!!!

So if your a wicklow business and your looking to get more customers, get your website noticed or even just your business noticed then online and here is the way!!

Here’s the info from Greystones Guide:

Time to get serious! –  we are upping our game
Greystones Guide’s main ambition is to get the word out there about the town and not only have local people using local businesses but also bringing folks to the town for the good quality and service all local Businesses bring on a daily basis.
After much brain storming and consultations and in order to keep everything up to date, AND expand technologies, we plan to bring massive exposure and get the message out via all forms of media about what Greystones & surrounding areas have to offer, and in order to make this happen, we have no alternative but to increase our advertising prices to €80 per year from 1st January.
The current price of €25+vat  is still available until 1st January and existing advertisers can renew their adverising for a further year at €25 if they renew before that date even if renewal is not due.
The new advertising plan can include a unique webpage if required.
We have big plans for Greystones Guide over the coming year and we hope to bring all the exposure the town needs to get this ‘R’ word out of the town for good!
To further promote your business – The Wicklow Way Website are offering Greystones Guide advertisers a special discount of €25 when you advertise your business on this high profile website – valid for 12 months  http://www.thewicklowway.com/
With this offer you will be on the Greystones Guide AND get your Wicklow Business Listed on Our Business Directory, Blog and Information Portal.

  • Business listing with google maps on our business directory: The Wicklow Way.com
  • Addition to our information portal Wicklow Way.ie on a relevant page
  • A blog post to help push the new listing on The wicklow way.ie, afterwhich the advertiser can send us in 2 blogs per month which we will copy and paste with added keywords and seo etc to our blog – which also feeds into numerous press feeds in Ireland and abroad alongwith Twitter and Facebook and Linked In

Wicklow Folks head to The Burren, Clare

burren-blogFancy a family adventure this mid term? why not head over to the beautiful West of Ireland and enjoy some fantastic walks on the infamous Burren in Co Clare.

A friend of ours lives this in gorgeous and strange landscape (which also featured on BBC’s Countryfile recently in fact) and she has put together an online diary or blog about the various Burren walks that are free for all and has even included family friendly walks that are ‘ perfect for kids’.

Being a busy mum herself she loves to entice the young ones outdoors and encourage their interest in the flora and fauna of the Burren.

Barnardos Walk a Success

Well we did it! Rain, a bit of hail and moon hiding behind the clouds but we did it and what fun it was.

We met lots of friendly folks including one lady who raved about Hilltop Treks’ single nights particuarly the ones in Mickey Finns and guess what? They’re having another one very soon, click here for details>>

The BBQ was welcome at the end of the walk and Barnardos Organiser  Liz and Phil did a great job in getting it all ready in time for our famished souls!!  Liz recently trekked up Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain so well done to her!! And Phil sang a song later in Fentons pub which was lovely – very spanish Phil!!

Was lovely to meet Emily, and the two Johns who guided us safely home alongwith Terry (Hilltop treks) of course, who sang us a few songs before he had to leggit back home to prepare for a morning Activity Day with his Day Tours Wicklow Business.

Thaaaanks terry, we missed you when you left but thanks to sam, Phil and Barman Stephen we had enough singers to keep us entertained for the evening!

A special thanks to Sam for making me cry with laughter at her rendition of Whans’ Young Guns song in the lights of the car!! Seriously funny stuff!!

Last but not least thanks to Aaron and Sue of Mountain Ventures Hostel for the comfy beds and warming tea!!

Highly recommended fun with Hilltoptreks and Mountain Ventures hostel

Political Pumpkins

Love the peaceful pumpkin display idea that is taking place at Leinster House on 31st October aka Halloween as a protest at the terribly bad way the country has been run to date.

This is what Organiser Richard has to say:

Peaceful Pumpkin Protest o…n Halloween night – the scariest and most terrifying night of the year.

I believe that there are lots of other people like me horrified by our government and they would like the opportunity to show their horror.
This is how I suggest we can express this horror PEACEFULLY.
1. Buy a pumpkin.
2. Carve what you wish into it.
3. Place a tea light within.
4. Bring your pumpkin along from 3.00pm on Sunday 31st October 2010 to the Merrion Square Entrance of Leister House.
5. Leave it in place for all the souls in Leinster House to consider, on All Souls night, the horror they have inflicted upon the citizens of this country.
6. Make sure not to leave your pumpkin there behind you, as that would be littering.

DISPLAY YOUR HORROR AT WHAT IS GOING ON IN IRELAND AND WHAT OUR PUBLIC REPRESENTATIVES ARE DOING ABOUT IT.
This is a simple protest, but with an important message. As a citizen of Ireland I am horrified and terrified at what is happenning to this country.
