Kilcoole Notes June 21st

FUN DAY THANK YOU

The Principal of Kilcoole Primary School, Joanne McDonagh would like to give a big thank you and well done to all the parents who fund-raised and helped make the Fun Day possible. Despite monsoon weather, a wonderful day was had.

FAMILY FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

Starting on Saturday 25th June, with East Coast radio broadcasting from Byrne’s car park. 5.30PM

  • Fresh n Funky Hip Hop, 6 p.m.
  • live music with Anna McGlyann, 6.30 p.m.
  • Fancy Dress Kids Disco and face painting.7.30 pm
  • live music in the beer garden with The Velveteen Vipers, and from 10.30 p.m. in the lounge, with Citric Sam & Ms Tangerine.
  • On Sunday 26th, there will be a barbeque from 2.p.m., as well as a market, and traditional Irish music in the pub.
  • Other highlights of the weekend are a caricaturisation the Saturday, and on Sunday afternoon Glenroe Farm will be there with small pet animals,
  • Also, for those of you who live outside Kilcoole, we hope to have taxis there to help get you home safely.

SET DANCING NIGHT

The monthly set dancing night will be held in the Mill Room on Wednesday 22nd June at 9.00 p.m.

JUNIOR RED CROSS GROUP

Greystones/Delgany Junior Red Cross Group meet every Wednesday in KPS St Anthony’s Building from 7-8p.m. for children of Primary school age,and 8-9p.m. for older students.

GAA CAMP

Kilcoole GAA are hosting VHI Cúl Camp from 25-29 July and recommend it to boys and girls from 6 – 13 years old. It promises to be a fun filled week with Hurling, Camogie and Gaelic Football. Book now on www.gaa.ie.

SENIOR CITIZENS CHRISTMAS PARTY FUND

There will be a Golf Classic for this worthy cause on Saturday 2nd July 2011 in Kilcoole Golf Club. The main sponsor is Bomar Ltd, but further sponsorship is required to raise funds. Green – €30, Tee Box €35, Hole €50. Prizes will be gratefully accepted.

KILCOOLE COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP

The shop is located on Penny Lane, off Main Street. We are open from 11-5 Tuesday to Friday, and 11-2 on Saturdays. We gratefully accept donations of clean family clothing, books, bric-a-brac and household items. No electrical items please. Each month we make a donation to a local group or charity. Please call in for a browse, and support local initiative.

Hollywood Notes June 20th 2011

Dates to Remember

  • Hollywood Sports and Field Day on Sunday 10th July.
  • It is hoped that Bishop Eamonn Walsh will celebrate Mass on June 26th and will officially receive the new Altar Servers in company with the Altar Servers from 5th class.

St Kevin’s GAA

St Kevins Mini Leagues will re-start in Hollywood on June 25th. Unwanted clothing is being collected to raise funds, contact Brian Keogh.

Flag days are coming up on July 2nd and 3rd. Hurling training for U8, U10 and U12 every Tuesday evening in Hollywood at 6.30pm.

St Kevins’ Juveniles in connection with the Hollywood Fair are holding a “Make a Scarecrow Competition”. This will be judged on June 25th in Hollywood GAA grounds at 3pm, followed by a BBQ.

The winning scarecrow will take pride of place at The Fair on Saturday August 20th, as well as €50 prize money. Entry fee is €5 and details are available from Martina Traynor or Marie Corrigan.

Cul Camps for Primary School children are fast approaching with the Football taking place in Dunlavin from July 18th to 22nd.

Hurling and Camogie taking place in Hollywood from August 15th to 19th. Cul Camp forms are available from the Club.

Hollywood Hills Tractor Run

The National Rehabilitation Hospital were presented with a cheque for €3607.00 by West Wicklow Classic & Vintage Vehicle Club at a function in Germaines in Baltinglass on Wed night June 8th.

This represented the proceeds from the Hollywood Hills Tractor run held on May 15th last. David Plunkett ,Head of Fundraising , at the NRH, accepted the donation on behalf of the Hospital. David was very impressed by the amount raised and expressed his gratitude to all concerned.

He remarked that the current hospital was built in 1916 and was due to be replaced, but due to current financial cutbacks in state funding this will not now happen. David also stated that the Doctor, Nurses and Therapists at the hospital are doing tremendous work to help get patients back to the best possible condition,

He said that this donation would go directly into patient care in the hospital which currently has one hundred and fourteen patients with about the same number waiting for a place. He added that donations like this will make a difference to the patients in the hospital.

Tom Duffy Junior was presented with an engraved crystal bowl as a mark of the club’s appreciation of all his help and that of his family who provided the field for the run and helped in many ways to make the event the success it was.

Mrs Sheila Duffy also received a presentation in appreciation of her input to the success of the event and during the preparation for it . Many thanks to all who supported in any way.

Doggies Day Out

Taking the bad weather into account the Dog Show at the Brockagh Centre was a success. Thanks to everyone who came on the day. Thanks to Willie McCoy, Glendalough Fair, Cormac O’Sullivan, Brockagh Centre, Liam Farrington, Rachel Cullen, Glenmalure Lodge who donated the raffle prizes.

Lunchtime Concert in St Kevins

St Kevin’s Church, Glendalough presents, in concert, the Sanctuary Choir and Lakeminster Ringers of the First Presbyterian Church, Lake Forest, Illinois, USA. St Kevin’s Church Choir will also feature. There will be popular choral works, spirituals, folk songs and music for hand-bell choir on Saturday 9 July, 2011 at 1 p.m. Donations to St. Kevin’s Church Choir Fund.

Pioneer Vigil

Wicklow Deanery Pioneer Vigil on Friday 1 July 2011 (Feast of Sacred Heart) in St. Kevin’s Church, Laragh. This will be followed by Holy Hour and Benediction and will conclude at 8.15 p.m. approximately. All welcome.

Bodhran Classes

Fathers day and Family Fun in Wicklow

Next weekend, Sunday June 19th promises to be a fun filled action packed day out for everyone! The weather forecast is good and we plan on maximising the Gardens at Trudder Lodge with Picnics, Archery, BBQ, Piggy Racing, Live Outdoor Music and other fun activities. We’d love to see you there!

U.S. Ambassador Explores Wicklow App

Daniel M. Rooney, U.S. Ambassador to Ireland attended an open forum today in Wicklow County Campus at Clermont College.

As Our new offices are also located here we were delighted to pop downstairs and meet Daniel who very nicely posed for a photo with us as he Explored Wicklow through the use of our new mobile app ExploreWicklow.

The Explore Wicklow App is free for the public to download and will show them shops, tourist information, hotels, bandbs, activity centres and loads more throughout the County of Wicklow.
