christmas gifts for art loversLocal Photographer Michael Delahunty has been busy taking beautiful landscape photos of Wicklow which he has now gathered together to feature on a high gloss high quality A3 size calendar for 2012.

The photos featured are exactly the reason why Wicklow is known as the Garden of Ireland and attracts visitors from all over the world. This is the perfect Christmas gift to send to loved ones who can’t make it home for Christmas or just for yourself to keep your spirits high in these harsh times.

Either way we think every household should have one! And many already have as there’s only 45 of the limited edition calendars left!

  • The calendar is a limited edition of 100, each one is signed and numbered.

Christmas Craft Fairs

There was a great crowd and ‘buzz’ at the Christmas Craft Fair on the 13th November with plenty of people shopping for Christmas.  Our last two Christmas Craft and Gift Fairs at the Brockagh Centre take place on Sunday 4th and 11th  December from 11am until 4pm.

There will be Carol Singing and entertainment on 4th December with Kate’s Elevation Dance School from 1.30 p.m.  Santa will be making a special appearance on  Sunday 11th at 12 noon.

The markets showcase a wide selection of unique and affordable, handmade craft and food products many made locally, as well as lots of other Christmas gift ideas.  The selection ranges from jewellery, woodturning, artwork, knitwear, glassware, leather goods, cards, decorations, books, personalised gifts and lots more.  Free parking and free admission.

Marie Keating Foundation

The Marie Foundation Mobile Unit and nurse will be at the Brockagh Centre on Tuesday 6 December  from 10.30 a.m. until 2.30 p.m.  The Marie Keating Foundation, works to beat cancer through awareness, education and support services.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Brockagh Centre at 11 a.m. where Ursula Clancy from the Marie Keating Foundation will give a talk about cancer or you may wish to visit the mobile unit which will be in the car park for information and support.

The Foundation focuses on cancers that are affected by lifestyle choices and its nurses work hard to ensure that men and women are made aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle as well as early detection as a key preventative measure.

Glendalough Arts Network

The Glendalough Arts Network are creating a Christmas event, for the children of the community on the green opposite Lynham’s  on Saturday 10 December. The event will start in the car park of the Brockagh Centre at 5pm sharp, where the children will  walk, supervised down to the green for the switching on of the Christmas tree lights.

There will be a short Christmas pageant of “The Night Before Christmas” featuring some of the children.  The Christmas lights will all be switched on. Weather permitting there will be Christmas singing around the tree and then everyone is welcome to go to the function room in Lynham’s Hotel where the fun will continue and Christmas drinks and mince pies are available to buy.

Arts Fundraiser at Christmas Market

Massage-Fundraising for Glendalough Arts Network at the  Christmas Market on the 4 of December.

Elena Rodriguez, from Soul In Hand Therapy is doing a fundraising day at the Brockagh Centre Xmas market . Donations are 5 euro for a hand massage and 10 euro for a chair back massage.

All the funds will go for the activity the group is organising on the 10th of December on the Green in Laragh with Santa and future events.

Emma’s School of Dance Ballet

Emma is continuing her ballet classes in the Brockagh Centre on Tuesday afternoons for children of all ages (from 3 yrs).  No experience necessary, all you need is a love of dance.  Benefits of Ballet include, improved posture, flexibility, muscular strength and co-ordination.

Also development of musicality, creativity and artistry as well as increasing self-esteem and confidence in a creative and positive environment.  From this term the clasess for younger students are starting an hour later.

Circuit Training & Kettle Bells

The Citizen’s Information Centre at the Brockagh Centre is open on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. The next dates are Tuesday 6 and 20 December from 10am until 12 noon for information relating to your rights and entitlements.  No appointment necessary.  This is a free and confidential service.

Tuesday Night – Dance Night

Tuesday night is dance night at the Brockagh Centre from 9.30 pm till late with the Wicklow Man.

AA Meetings

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night.  If you think that you may have a problem with alcohol please come along.

KILQUADE PARISH YOUTH CHOIR

First gathering of this new choir, Wednesday 30th November 7.30p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, Kilcoole. All teenagers welcome so please come along.

SET DANCING CHRISTMAS PARTY

The Set Dancing Christmas Party will be held on Friday, 2nd December in the Mill Room, starting at 9 p.m. with music from Pat, Caitriona and Darren.

4 weeks notice is required from parents who request baptism for their child. Baptisms in Newtownmountkennedy take place on the 1st Sunday of each month at 12.15pm, in Kilquade on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 12.45pm, and in Kilcoole on the 4th Saturday of each month at 5.00pm.

A baptism preparation meeting takes place on the 1st Wednesday of each month in the Carmelite Monastery in Delgany at 8.00pm.  Parents and Godparents are requested to attend this meeting.

Hollywood Notes Nov 21st 2011

WINTER WONDERLAND – DONARD

Once again this year Santa is making a return visit to the village of Donard.  Last year despite the snow he was delighted that so many children came to visit him and hopes to see even more this year.  Even though he comes to the Wicklow Hills for some rest before the bigh rush at Christmas he loves to take time our to meet lots of children and have a chat with them.

The Winter Wonderland at Moat Farm, Donard will be open for 3 Sundays in December the 4th,11th and the 18th from 2pm to 6pm.  Santa will make a grand entrance each day in his special Santa Mobile at 2pm.  He will be available all afternoon to talk to the children.

While waiting to see Santa there is lots to do and see including face painting and visiting the animals including one of Sants’s special reindeer. The adults wont get bored as there will be arts, crafts and food stalls, a good chance to pick up some presents while enjoying the atmosphere.

Fresh Christmas trees will also be available.  Adults can relax beside a roaring fire and enjoy some mince pies and mulled wine.  Even if you don’t have a child to visit Santa, come along and enjoy all that the Winter Wonderland experience has to offer.  No bookings required and there is ample free car parking available.

Admission for children is 10 which includes a present from Santa and a family photo with the man himself will cost 5, however you are also welcome to bring your own camera to capture the moment.  there is no admission charge for Adults.

CRAFTS WANTED

Stalls are available in the Winter Wonderland in Donard for any crafts person wishing to find an outlet for their produce. The event will run on 3 Sundays in December the 4th, 11th and 18th from 2pm – 6pm daily.

Senior Citizens

The Hollywood Senior Citizens Christmas Party is on Wednesday 14th December at 3.30pm in the Hollywood Inn.

Christmas Raffle

The Parish Christmas Raffle and Visit of Santa will take place on Saturday December 3rd, after 6pm Mass, in the Community Centre.  The Committee would be grateful if Raffle Cards could be returned as soon as possible.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is open from 9.30am to 1pm Monday to Friday.  The Christmas Stock has arrived, including Christmas Mass Bouquets and Cards, Calendars, Glass Candle Holders, and Miniature Crib Sets.   All support for the Parish Office is very welcome.

Bingo will take place in the Hollywood Centre on Thursday evening at the usual time of 8.30pm. There are 2 JACPKPOTS of €3000 on offer each week, so why not come along and chance you arm, you never know you could WIN !

Sheep Shearing Championships

As part of the preparation for the All Ireland Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Championships in Hollywood next June, a group of parents who formed the School Parents Association during the past twelve months have decided to join with the GAA in helping to prepare for this event.

Like all of our Parents Association through the years, they have done excellent work for the school.  The G.A.A are lucky to have such a dedicated group of people joining them in this venture.

Hopefully, as time goes on, more of the Community will assist the GAA if help is needed.

Hollywood GAA Notes

The Club’s AGM will take place on December 4th at 4pm, Motion and Nomination forms are now making their way around to members.  Please make sure they are returned to the secretary by 27th November.

Hollywood Wool and Country Fair

Hollywood Wool and Country Fair is running the All Ireland Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Championships on June 2nd and 3rd 2012.Hollywood Wool and Country Fair consists of Hollywood National School’s Parents Association and Hollywood G.A.A.In order to raise funds for the staging of the event the committee is collecting Scrap Steel and Metal, so expect a knock on the door in the coming weeks.  All support is appreciated.

Santa at glenroe

Santa is arriving at Glenroe Farm this Saturday 26th November.   Come along and check out Santa’s reindeer, live nativity stable, as well as puppet shows and an indoor market, from next weekend until Christmas.

Glendalough Arts Network

Many thanks to those who supported our recent Table Quiz in the Glendalough Hotel and to those who donated raffle prizes – many thanks to the Glendalough Hotel.

Our next monthly fireside session takes place on Friday November 25th will take place by the fireside in Glendalough Green (Top Shop)  and features Leslie Dowdall (acclaimed Irish singer and performer) and company from 6.45pm to 9pm.

We will be running a community Christmas event on the Green in Laragh on Saturday December 10 details to follow.

Santa is coming to Sharpeshill SPCA

Christmas is fast approching and this year the Wicklow SPCA will be holding their main fundraiser of the year over two days on the 10th and 11th Dec.

Our Christmas Fair will consist of Santa arriving by pony and trap and he will be in his grotto from 2 o’clock.  Mrs Claus will be helping to hand out the goodies.

You can make an appointment with Santa by ringing the office @ 0404 44783 or in person on the day.

We hope to make this a great family weekend with plenty of elves mingling and a few carols blowing in the wind.

To help make this event successful we are looking for volunteers. If you think you can help in any way please contact the office and with your help we will be able to have the best Christmas yet.
