Community volunteering day Laragh

The Native Woodland Trust and Laragh Community Developing a Woodland Reserve – Volunteer day 11th August.

volunteers at LaraghThe Native Woodland Trust is an Irish non-government charity organisation dedicated to the protection and planting of native woodland in Ireland. Native woodland, woods made up of native broadleaved trees and flowers such as the great oaks and bluebells, are a scarce habitat in Ireland and need protection.

We are establishing a community woodland reserve in Laragh where we are planting a brand new native woodland and we are calling for volunteers to get involved in the project. The reserve is located just five minutes’ drive from Laragh village or half an hour’s walk up the Wicklow Way.

laragh volunteersAt our site in Laragh we are currently developing a community woodland which will be completed with public walking paths and educational boards. This woodland reserve will never be harvested and will grow along with the community to be used as a recreational and educational resource for everyone, forever.

Work has only started on this community project and we will be developing the site over the years with help from the local community through activities such as tree planting, acorn collecting and other volunteering tasks.

On Saturday 11th August we are having a community volunteering day on the reserve when we will be clearing and improving access paths to prepare for our autumn tree planting. The volunteering day will be an opportunity to see the site, learn about our organisation, get stuck into a bit of healthy outdoor work and help with the development of this community project.

Native Woodland Trust hands-on volunteering days are the perfect way to get some exercise while having fun and enjoying the great outdoors and where better to do so than on our spectacularly located Wicklow Mountains Reserve in Laragh. Come along and make a difference!

The meeting point for this event is the Brockagh Centre car park, Laragh at 11:00 on Saturday 11th August. All ages are welcome. If you are interested in taking part in this volunteering day then contact Kieran at kieran.flood@nativewoodlandtrust.ie or on 087 1953629 or see www.nativewoodlandtrust.ie
