Walking Trails by hillwalkers for hillwalkers

WalkingRoutes.ie was created by hillwalkers for hillwalkersWalkingRoutes.ie the website that allows you to find walking trails near you.

WalkingRoutes.ie was created by hillwalkers for hillwalkers. Frustrated with a lack of trail maps in Ireland the website was created so that a community of users could create and share their own trails.

Knowing how many unofficial trails that only locals must be aware of WalkingRoutes.ie’s aim is to enable the sharing of this tribal knowledge.

valentines singles walk in wicklow Walking is a fantastic way to meet people in a more relaxed and enjoyable environment. The walk

We will walk along an old road up the Upper Lake passing the Monastic site, which we will stop and visit. The walk then takes us through an old oak forest along the bottom right-hand side of the lake. From here we will pass by St’ Kevin’s Cell and Reefert church (“Ri fearta” or the King’s Cemetery and sacred Gaelic Chieftain burial grounds) and follow the trail along through the woods. We will then leave the trail and go into the trees to come out on top of one the most incredible views above the Upper Lake – a definite photo opportunity. We will then follow a board walk up towards the Gleneola River and bridge where we will stop for some lunch.

From here we will take the path passing an old mining village and through a forest of old Scot pines. We will follow the trail along the side of the upper lake and through the heart of Glendalough valley back to where we started.

The walk will last approximately 3 -4 hours and will be taken at a very easy pace with an optional easier walk also.
There are plenty of stops and photo opportunities along the way.
