Rathdrum Walks and Trails

Rathdrum Tidy Towns, sponsored by County Wicklow Partnership, have put together a lovely booklet featuring 4 local walks and trails around Rathdrum.

A crisp autumn day like today is perfect for getting out and about with all the family!

These include:

• The Main Walk which starts and finishes at The Parnell Memorial Park
• The Jubilee Loop Walk which is a very suitable family walk and incorporates local Mass paths and the famine graveyard.
• The Mill Walk (one of my personal favourites) is also family friendly and includes views of Kilcommon station, Railway viaduct and the Rathdrum flour Mill
• The Parnell Railway Walk featuring views over the Avondale river, the River Viaduct and  Avodale House and Gardens.

Walking in this area is always a treat with so much natural beauty and wildlife to be seen.

Rose of Avondale Rathdum Co Wicklow

The 4th Rose of Avondale festival is taking place next week from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th August 2011.

Events include:

• music,
• Fireworks Display on Thursday night.
• An invitation only Wine and Cheese Reception in Avondale House for Roses, Escorts, sponsors and judges.
• Cabaret In Jacob’s Well Pub and Restaurant on Friday Night 12th Aug.
• A variety of family fun events will be taking place on the saturday.

The crowning of the Rose and Escort of Avondale will take place in Avondale Sports Complex at 8.00 p.m. on Saturday night followed by a live band. This is an all-ticket event and will cost €15.

Roses will receive a Gift Bag including items from Armani, Avon and the Jelly Bean Factory. To get involved contact Dora on 086-3654909

The winner of the competition will be presented with their award by my mum! Patricia Kelly, in memory of our Dad Thomas Kelly who passed away earlier this year and was renowned for getting a singsong together at Jacobs!
