Septic Tanks Wicklow

Septic Tank Cleaning Wicklow

Time to get your septic tank checked!

About Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems Registration

The Water Services (Amendment) Act 2012 requires water services authorities to maintain a register of domestic waste water treatment systems in their functional areas. The Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) has developed a central on-line registration system and will manage the system on a shared-service basis for the water services authorities.

Register via protectourwater.ie

From Tuesday 26th June 2012 owners of domestic waste water treatment systems will be required to register their systems with their water services authority – currently the local authority. A once-off registration fee will apply starting with a reduced offer of €5 from now until 28 September 2012 which will then increase to €50 from those who register after 28th September. Owners need to renew their registration every five years, at no cost.

Having a register of domestic water treatment systems and septic tanks enables inspections to check that systems are working properly so that water – ground, surface and drinking water – can be protected from the risks posed by malfunctioning systems. This initiative will ultimately enhance and protect public health and the environment which will, in turn, benefit rural dwellers in terms of a better quality of life and improved water quality.

Public Information Evening

ashford-community-parkA Public Information Evening on the proposed development for Ashford Community Park will be held next Thursday, 7th February between 6pm and 9pm in Ashford National School, Ashford, County Wicklow.

This will be a drop-in event for all the Ashford community and will showcase the proposed
new Park, the proposed plans, play equipment and will be an opportunity to exchange views on what the people of Ashford would like to see in the Park. All are extremely welcome.

The proposed development has been created out of the desire to build a community park for the entire Ashford Community. With the kind permission of the Stokes Family, a site measuring approx.

1 acre has been identified and is located opposite the proposed Community Centre inside the walls of the Inchanappa House lands bordering the approach to the main roundabout in the centre of Ashford Village. This site was originally identified in the Ashford Local Area Plan as being suitable for a Public Park.

The proposed Community Park will include a Junior Playground for 2-6 year olds, a Senior Playground for 6-12 year olds, a Teenage Area, Adult Outdoor Gym and a quiet space for reading, relaxing, painting, poetry readings, meeting up.

The plans also include a Pedestrian bridge over the flowing stream, Benches and Picnic Tables, Bird and Bat Boxes, Sculptures and local Artwork. The
innovative nature of the site is founded in the fact that it was originally planted by the gardeners of Mount Usher Gardens and contains many existing specimen trees and interesting flowers.

Ashford Village has for a very long time been in serious need of a facility to cater for young and old. There has been a lack of facilities for people to meet up, for children to play or to just enjoy a little quiet time. It is hoped that the proposed Ashford Community Park will embrace all of these needs and be enjoyed by all the community for many years.

A substantial portion of the required funding has been provisionally approved under the LEADER scheme to help with the building of the playground. Additional funds will need to be raised through the Community to meet the required funding to complete the project.

A fundraising plan is being drafted up which will encourage all ages to get involved. It is intended to lodge Full Planning Permission in February following this consultation process and it is hoped that the Park will be open by the end of 2013.

The Committee can be contacted at ashfordcommunitypark@gmail.com and progress can be monitored on Facebook by “Liking” Ashford Community Park.

Arklow Communities Together Exhibition Tells All

An exciting exhibition  will be held on Tuesday 13th November 2012 in Arus Lorcain Arklow.

As an increasing number of people are being made redundant, asked to work shorter hours, taking early retirement or finding it difficult to secure employment, we decided -in response to this situation - that an exhibition showing people what Arklow has to offer and the many ways they might use their time for the benefit of themselves and their community would be positive initiative.

The exhibition will feature 5 main strands:

  • Services to the community – from further education to information on rights and entitlements.
  • Sports and Recreation – from football clubs to bridge clubs
  • Arts and Crafts – from drama groups to church choirs
  • Environmental Initiatives – from community gardens to protecting our heritage
  • Volunteering Opportunities – from making tea to providing strategic advice.

The exhibition will run from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and tea and coffee will be provided through-out the day.( Tuesday 13th November)

Autumn Gardening Tips

MossOffThe seasons are a-changing and it is getting nippy out there! Although things in the garden might be heading towards a rather inactive period, a bit of lawn maintenance now could prevent issues later. Prevention is better than the cure, as they say!

child and pet friendly moss remover It’s important to get the lawn mowed before the frost and colder temperatures set in. Aim to have the cut approximately 2 ½ inches in height and check your blades before you mow as blunt blades tear the grass instead of cutting them.

If your garden is anything like ours then you’ll be raking leaves at least once a week! It is important to clear the leaves from your grass. The easiest thing to do is rake in a pile and then gather in a compostable bag. We have a variety of sizes in our GreenSax range to choose from so if you’ve an orchard full of trees then the bigger bags would be best!

Now is also the best time to fertilise your lawn. To ensure that it gets the best of the fertiliser, use a garden fork to create small holes in your lawn. It is best to try to get the lawn fertilised before the weather becomes very wet.

Similarly, if you’ve got any moss in your lawn, it is recommended to remove the moss before the heavy rain arrives. We produce a product called Moss Off which is a 100% chemical free but very effective when it comes to combating moss. It must be applied when the weather is good as it needs time to dry in order to work.

Have any brown patches where the grass did not thrive? Reseeding now means the seed will germinate ahead of winter and give a thicker, denser blade which will lead to a healthier lawn come Spring! Act now and you can have a beautifully lush lawn next summer.

MossOff is a completely natural product available in a ready-to-use spray or a super concentrate for treating large areas.

Yes, you can use MossOff anywhere, even in lawns and on the edges of your car windows. No, it won’t harm people, plants, animals or grass. Yes, it works quickly and no, it contains no chemicals whatsoever.
