Foraging Events in Ireland

EcoActiveIreland.com currently has a number of foraging events listed that are happening over the next few weeks including:

There are two dates to choose from: Saturday 28th September and October 05th.

4th Annual Americana & Roots Music Festival August 2-5th

Dust off your Ostrich Skin cowboy boots and two-step on down to Greystones this August Bank Holiday weekend for the 4th Annual Americana & Roots Music Festival, happening August 2-5th.

This year’s festival spans the entire weekend and features an outstanding lineup of over 30 performing artists, with the music spread across three different stages. And best of all, admission is FREE, making this one-of-a-kind Co. Wicklow event a must-see for fans of American roots music and families looking for a budget-friendly destination to bring the kids.

The Americana and Roots Festival showcases some of Ireland and America’s finest guitar pickers, banjo pluckers, and singer/songwriters, all served up with a heaping helping of roots rock ‘n’ roll to close out each night. This year’s high-lights include:

The Cujo Family, Gypsy Rebel Rabble, Greasy Coat String Band, Corner Boy, The Baskervilles, and Diego Tijuana and the Hot Chihuahuas.

Local ‘Hard-Folk’ outfit ‘The Cujo Family’ are fresh out of the studio with their debut full length LP ‘Stories of Ruin’ and are ready to put their blistering live show on display on the main stage Saturday, August 3rd.

Gypsy Rebel Rabble are just back from their appearance at Ireland’s Body and Soul Festival and promise to rattle the rafters with their homespun, driving sound. They take the main stage Sunday, August, 4th.

The Baskerville’s unique brand of vagabond folk-rock is sure to please as they return again this year to the main stage. The endlessly entertaining front-man Wilbur Baskerville regales his audience with tales of expensive women, cheap brandy, and the dire consequences of mixing the two. Sunday, August 4th.

Also Joining Us Will be Folk Legend Al O’ Donnell, Bluegrass from The Greasy Coat Stringband and Huegrass, From Portland Oregon The Legendary Kory Quinn and From Denver Colorado Ben Jordan. Lastly We will have The Fantastic Big Muddy And The New Peasants Who Hand out Bucketfulls of Countryrock Goodness.

The Beach House at Greystone’s harbour is proud to host this event for the fourth consecutive year.

The lovely seaside location makes for a festive, family-friendly park with American-style barbeque, music workshops, and a funzone for the kids with bouncy castles, games, and other activities. The Beach House offers a full restaurant and bar service and ample indoor and outdoor seating with great views of the performances. Dann’s Bar next door hosts the intimate Acoustic stage and serves up the perfect beverage to accompany the live music.

Admission is FREE and the fun lasts the entire weekend, so mark it on your calendar and we’ll see y’all in Greystones this August! ‘

Networking the Twitter Way

@GreystonesOpen was started to get Greystones networking and socialising at tweetups on the last Thursday of every month. There are a huge number of tweeters living in and around Greystones and Delgany, most of whom have never met each other but possibly tweet each other quite regularly.

So what is a tweetup? It’s an informal get together with people who use twitter so we can all meet face to face making new contacts and friends in the local area. The first GreystonesOpen was held in Mrs Robinsons Bar last month and was a great success and we look forward to growing the numbers month on month.

Jill O’Herlihy started @greystonesOpen. This is what she said about it“I hope to get a different pub or restaurant to host each GreystonesOpen event so people attending get to check out all the local establishments. All we ask is that the host for each event provides a few nibbles for attendees and reserves a small area for us. There are so many businesses in Greystones and Wicklow on twitter and I would hope that GreystonesOpen will assist these businesses to grow their twitter followers and in return to grow their business.”

“Everyone is welcome to attend the next GreystonesOpen which takes place on Thursday 25th July. We are looking for a host for the July event so if you would like to put your name forward please tweet me at @greystonesopen

You can contact Jill on Twitter via @GreystonesOpen and @jilloherlihy or contact her via her website: http://about.me/Jilloherlihy

The Fáilte Ireland 360 Survey

The Fáilte 360 represents the views of nearly 10,000 overseas and domestic holidaymakers who visited eleven destinations last year and provides in-depth insight into what they experienced.

The surveys look at:

·         Why a certain destination was chosen

·         How they researched their trip and sourced their information

·         Where they stayed,

·         Where chose to eat and

·         What attractions they visited.
The research also asked visitors about the likelihood of them recommending Ireland as a holiday destination and, encouragingly, most would recommend Ireland for a holiday and over six out of ten would highly recommend Ireland to their friends and family.

Speaking today Shaun Quinn CEO of Fáilte Ireland stressed the importance of research like this for developing Ireland’s tourism sector –

“If we want to continue to attract more overseas visitors to Ireland, we need to know more about what they think, what they like and what they want.  Tourism is in a good place compared to five years ago but we can’t become complacent. In order to draw more visitors to our shores we need to ensure we are providing the right type of holiday experiences – particularly for our overseas markets. In that respect, research like this is a valuable help to all of us in the sector as we continue to develop and improve Ireland’s tourism offering.”
