The Venue
With a stunning location nestled between the Sugar Loaf Mountain and Dublin Bay, Killruddery House & Gardens is one of Ireland’s best kept secrets. Widely known as the “Gateway to the Garden of Ireland”.

The Course
The 10KM course will be the same as in 2011, starting in front of the magnificient Killruddery House, one of the most successfully restored EIizabethan-Revival mansions in Ireland.

The course is primarily an off-road trail course – the perfect opportunity to get off the pavement and add variety to your run training. Instead of cars and noisy traffic, you will have the pleasant sight of Killruddery’s farm livestock in the neighbouring fields! We recommend that you wear trail runners because, if the course is wet, you may lose traction if you’re wearing normal road runners.

Locked into Devils Glen

Funny story… myself and my sister went for a gorgeous walk in Devils Glen , Ashford yesterday ( Saturday 14th April). As we drove in we acknowledged the sign that read: Gates Close at 5pm.

We drove up to the carpark as we wanted to see if the masses of bluebells had come out yet.. ( not quite is the answer) and then set off for a long walk down to the waterfall and back…HOWEVER, we got a teeny bit confused and ended up walking for two hours whereupon when we returned we realised that it was now 5.45 and the gates may be closed.

We drove as fast we could ( 25mph on that road) and lo and behold the gates were indeed locked tight. What to do?…

Unfortunately there is no notice of what to do in this case- the notice board does have a contact tel for the Coillte Newtownmountkennedy office, but that’s no use if its after 5pm or a weekend!

The answer:

We rang Ashford garda station who took our number and got back to us via Wicklow garda station, The Wicklow station did indeed have a key and woud be on their way out to us promptly! PHEW!

Ten minutes later we were free again with thanks to the two guards who came out to open the gate ( in the rain)

So a HUGE Thank You to the Wicklow guards and I hope this info can be of help to some other unfortunate souls in the future!

Wicklow Guards: +353(0)404 60140

Still, was an adventure my sis won’t forget! :)
