The Park Restaurant Arklow Review

Located directly beside the carpark in Arklow that is situated opposite the Arklow dole office / garda station etc sits the impressive and inviting looking  Restaurant that is The Park.

Myself and a friend finally got a chance to check it out for lunch the other day and boy oh boy are we glad we did! Anyone who reguarly reads our blog will know how much I adore food and the use of interesting tastes and blends etc. ( well with 2 chefs in the family its not surprising I guess) .

Anyway we literally were in and out as had a busy day but from the moment we walked in to The Park an air of calm decended upon us.

We sat ( having been offered a few choice tables)  in the wonderfully muted and cooling room (HOT day!) that is the restaurant and were immediately offered a drink of our choice or perhaps just water?

Which is always nice as some folks feel awkward asking for regular water.

The menu had a fine range of light and savoury sandwiches ( the fancy kind) salads, stir fry type dishes to offer and myself and my mate both opted for the sizzling beef with pakchoi and stir fried veg  and shared a bowl of homecut chips- Forgive me if the exact ingredients are incorrect as I was in a slight hurry but it was truly GORGEOUS food!!  Beautiful zings of lemon and honey and neither too little or too much on the plate.

Maybe its a girl thing but the state of a restaurants’ toilet facitlites really matter to me ( and pubs – oh some pub toilets are sooo bad in Wicklow!!) and I am pleased to report that they are clean and pleasant in The Park Restaurant.

I just had a small cappucino afterwards which was very nice too and then unfortunatley we had to zoom on to our next port of call!

Being located literally by the car park is very convenient for meeting up with friends and we will definately be back again. Highly recommended for a nice lunch.

Total cost approx 27 euro altogether.  A bit pricey maybe for lunch but very very tasty and worth it – I had been thinking about that dish for 2 days afterwards! honestly.

Bates Restaurant Rathdrum Wicklow

Wicklow Restaurant Launches new website

The very popular Bates Restaurant in Rathdrum Co Wicklow have just launched their new website – www.batesrestaurant.ie. The site features samples of their many menus including Lunch, Dinner, Early Bird and Take Out menus. Plus their many Flickr images give those who have yet to visit a visual idea of the restaurants’ layout.

Regular readers of The wicklow way will be well aware of how much we LOVE bates! Situated down the picturesque cobbled lane off main street Rathdrum, this Wicklow Restaurant oozes calm, professionalism and fine cuisine.

On a  sunny Wicklow day this little piece of heaven will have you head over heels in Holiday happiness! And if your not on Hols you’ll think you are – seriously!

They have just extended their Early Bird menu to include Fridays and Saturdays (5.30 – 6.30pm) and also offer a fine take out menu if you fancy a night in!  Bates use Irish produce and incorporate many local Wicklow Artisan Food products in their menus – an example of which is the Kilcoole based ‘Janets Country Fayre‘ products of which are also available in the Restaurant.

A little Wicklow birdie has told us of Bates plans to get even more involved in the local wicklow community over the coming years with festivals, local fundraising events and much more in the pipleline which is lovely – Becoming part of the Wicklow community is what The Wicklow Way.ie is all about and Bates of Wicklow have shown their willingness and determination to do just that!

We raise our glasses to all the Staff at Bates Rathdrum Co Wicklow, in particular Alvaro and Marino,  and look forward to visiting them again soon!

Ramada Hotel Bray, Three Qs, Mermaid Arts Centre

Just a brief note as promised to tell you all how the David O Doherty gig was at Mermaid Arts Centre Bray last weekend- in short it was great (although I was a teeny bit chilly ) and he (DOD) did mention how one must be careful about telling young kids that they’re heading to the mermaid next week – his neice was Sooo excited because she thought she was actually going to see a real live Mermaid!!
for all the latest in rts and events at mermaid check out their website here >>>

The Ramada Hotel rooms were very tastefully decorated in reds ( am sooo glad to leave florals behind!) and the staff were very pleasant plus it was no hassle at all to get a taxi straight away! the cost was only €69 for the room excludign breakfast so check out their website here for other great offers: www.ramadabray.com

Review of:
bates restaurant, rathdrum, co wicklowBates Restaurant,

(Beside the Cartoon Inn)
Rathdrum,
Co Wicklow
Tel: +353 404 29988

Bates restaurant situated down the scenic cobblestone lane beside the Cartoon Inn in Rathdrum town, Co Wicklow was the location for our family get together last week.

Tempting though it is to heap praise without negative opinions, we have promised to keep our reviews as honest as possible so here goes:

Bates restaurant have recently celebrated their First Anniversary and to coincide they have created a new mouth watering menu with plenty of options to suit both the meat lover and the vegetarian.

cartoon pub

The night in question was a quiet midweek night thus we had no trouble choosing a seat (we had booked), however, the background music was a bit um..odd. Sort of quiet techno all night. Having said that I think someone forgot to change it as, having been there last Spring the music was much mellower. But perhaps I am getting old?

Never mind that though, the food , my friends, the food!
Between the four of us we shared our plates in order to get a taste of as many dishes as possible including:

  • wild mushrooms on toast -mmmm,
  • lobster risotto,
  • seafood chowder,
  • seafood salad,
  • goats cheese,
  • pork with crackling
  • turbot in a brown butter sauce.

alvaro herran of bates rathdrum Suffice to say the entire meal was delicious with everyone happy with their choice.

We also had a bottle of fine South African wine, an Italian beer and a Brandy in a heated glass.

Total cost including optional 15% tip came in under €180 for four adults.

We at www.thewicklowway.ie would highly recommend Bates Restaurant in Rathdrum for a special evening out preferably at the weekend when it is at it’s livliest.

Oh yes, they had a very sexy dish for meat lovers with fillet steak (for two) cooked rare only and served at the table with Bernaise sauce and more, which sounded like a very intimate experience to try. next time…

It is neccessary to book in advance so do telephone them on +353 (0) 404 29988
